NRT Sheep Pasture - Easton, MA
Today we met up with some friends at the Natural Resource Trust of Easton's Sheep Pasture in North Easton, MA for a winter scavenger hunt. These friends are aiming to spend 1,000 hours outside in 2021 and inspired this blog! There is no cost to visit the Sheep Pasture, which is a stone's throw from some of our other favorite spots in the area: Langwater Farm, Corfinio restaurant, and Hilliard's candy store.
We started at the parking lot by the main office, and then walked back toward the road to visit the sheep, who were playing outside in the snow with some geese. We were surprised to see a little altercation between a sheep and a feisty goose! We headed back to the chicken coops near the parking area to say hello to a few families of chickens.
Then, we took the Rhododendron Trail to the Ames Parker Loop, which ended back at the parking lot. I forgot to start the GPS feature on my watch, but I would guesstimate that the whole hike was about a mile. The paths were clear, wide, and well-kept, with packed snow that made for a gentle winter hike.
The aptly-named Rhododendron Trail meandered through beautiful New England woods lined with trees and bushes, ending at a community garden. The Ames Parker Loop then took us through picturesque open fields, where the kids happily ran through and played in the snow.
Collectively, we found all of the items in the scavenger hunt, though wildlife was scarce today. We saw more leashed dogs with other visitors than we did squirrels or birds.
Overall, the Sheep Pasture is a great choice for little hikers - as it offers well-marked, easy trails, and some farm animals to visit. While the temps were cold and the wind was blustery, it was a lovely, sunny winter's day. We were very happy to spend it in the Sheep Pasture with our friends.
Looked like a nice winter day! Glad you could spend some time outdoors. There are more animals to visit in the summer. We’ve enjoyed visiting with the girls several times.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Simba the cow recently passed away, so I believe this is it for farm animals right now. Still fun though!
